Timeless

“Words are a pretext. It is the inner bond that draws one person to another, not words.”
― Rumi

Words of wisdom with a decidedly modern ring to them despite being written almost a thousand years ago.

I know his observation about the bonds between people are as true today as they were in 1285. I’ve known all my life how, once in a great while, I’m drawn to someone. Intuition or chemical or perhaps … something else.

Either way, I lie still and try to ignore the shadows and memories and look to what will be … patiently, with an open heart.

“I want to see you.
Know your voice.

Recognize you when you
first come ’round the corner.

Sense your scent when I come
into a room you’ve just left.

Know the lift of your heel,
the glide of your foot.

Become familiar with the way
you purse your lips
then let them part,
just the slightest bit,
when I lean in to your space
and kiss you.

I want to know the joy
of how you whisper
“more”
